This morning, I among many others received the news that Ideatap will be closing on the 2nd June this year. They have been providing key services to young aspiring artist and early career professionals through advice and training sessions on all aspects of the arts industry, funding platforms and support for new companies. They provided a link between successful people and those looking for success.
They have had to make this decision due to lack of funds, and there doesn't yet appear to be any option of saving the charity. I fear this move is only the beginning of more bad news for the arts in Britain, which are already struggling with budget cuts and theatre closures. Recently we have seen how a developer in Streatham is trying to create a Theatre space which many would struggle to functionally use, purely to get around planning law. Big business seems to care little for support of the arts and the government are doing little to appease this. I can only hope that somewhere, someone will endeavour to reinvigorate funding and support for those pursing or wishing to pursue a career in the arts and media industries, otherwise our world beating standard of theatre, film, writing and art will fall by the wayside, and another part of 'Great' Britain will be lost to the museum heap of the past.
